VAT & WHT auto-calculation

No more calling your accountant to ask "how much VAT do I add?"

We've seen it — Nigerian business owners guessing whether to add 7.5% or not. Charging VAT to clients who already deducted WHT and getting the maths wrong. Sending invoices to FIRS-audited companies without the right tax fields.

Paycape handles it automatically. Add your service type — consulting, construction, rent, whatever — and the right VAT and WHT rates are applied instantly. Every time. Correct every time.

VAT at 7.5% applied automatically on taxable services
WHT rate selected based on your service type (5% or 10%)
Net payable (after WHT) calculated for you
All tax fields shown separately as FIRS requires
Clients can claim input VAT credits from your invoice

Your invoice tax is calculated the moment you select a service:

Consulting / Professional fees 10% WHT · 7.5% VAT
Construction / Building works 5% WHT · 7.5% VAT
Rent (commercial property) 10% WHT · VAT exempt
Supply of goods / materials 5% WHT · 7.5% VAT
Management / Technical services 10% WHT · 7.5% VAT

Based on current FIRS guidelines. Updated when tax regulations change.

FAQs

Invoicing questions from Nigerian business owners

Does Paycape automatically add VAT to my invoices?
Yes. When you add a line item, Paycape applies the correct VAT rate based on the service type. For standard goods and services in Nigeria, that's 7.5%. Zero-rated and exempt categories are also supported. The VAT amount is shown as a separate line item on the invoice as required by FIRS.
How does WHT work on Paycape invoices?
Withholding Tax (WHT) is deducted by your client before paying you. When you create an invoice in Paycape, you select the service type (consulting, construction, supply of goods, etc.) and Paycape shows the applicable WHT rate (5% or 10%). Your invoice shows the gross amount, the WHT deduction, and the net payable — so your client knows exactly how much to send and how much to remit to FIRS.
Can I send invoices in US Dollars or other currencies?
Yes. Paycape supports multi-currency invoicing — you can invoice in NGN, USD, GBP, EUR, and other currencies. This is useful for Nigerian businesses with international clients or those invoicing diaspora customers.
What information must be on a valid Nigerian tax invoice?
A FIRS-compliant tax invoice must include: your business name and address, your TIN (Tax Identification Number), the client's name and address, invoice number and date, description of goods/services, the VAT amount shown as a separate line, and total payable. Paycape's invoice template covers all of these automatically.
Can I set up recurring invoices for retainer clients?
Yes. You can set up recurring invoice schedules — weekly, monthly, or custom intervals. Paycape sends the invoice automatically on your schedule, tracks payment status, and sends reminders. Great for consultants, lawyers, accountants, and service providers with ongoing client relationships.
